Hwang Ho. Rain Over the Great River

K.K.

1.
Wet bamboo on the floor.
It's been raining for three weeks.
Rolling up the shades I look
At the flowing Great River.
At dawn I went outside into the rain
And stood for a long time,
Letting the rain splash on my face and hands.
I thought I heard You talking to me.

2.
The bumble-bee is soaked and can't fly.
A dragonfly on a damp bush.
Along the stream I'm walking alone
Under an umbrella full of holes.
My ink supply ended in March -
I'm drawing poetry in the sand
And in just moments, they are washed away
By one of the streams
Flowing to the Great River.

3.
Singing of toads in the reeds.
At night I am dreaming
That the river has overflown
And the Great waters have washed away my house.
Lightly swaying on the yellow waves
My hut has started down the Great River
Heading down to the Delta
Where maybe You and I will become one.
